On your Florida vacation, browse and shop in a variety of quaint stores, antique shops and restaurants along Centre Street, our main thoroughfare.

The shrimp docks and marina in Nassau County are just a three-minute walk from the inn. The marina offers charter fishing, boat rentals, and a chance to see dolphins manatees and sea turtles playing in the Amelia River. In the evening, magnificent sunsets silhouette the shrimp fleet as it returns with the day's catch.

The Atlantic Ocean and wide, spectacular beaches lie less than two miles to the east of the historic district. Your Florida vacation may include swimming, surfing, beachcombing, shelling and other favorite activities. While in Fernandina Beach Florida, you can visit Fort Clinch, a Civil War fort and State Park, complete with historic reenactments and monthly candlelight tours. The surrounding park has miles of nature trails, tree lined roads and a fishing pier.

And, of course, there's great golf and tennis just a few minutes drive from the inn. Our acclaimed resort island truly has something for everyone. MUSEUM TOURS are available Monday through Saturday at 11 AM and 2 PM. All tours are docent guided and last about 1 1/2 hours. This is perfect for anyone who would like to learn more about the fascinating history of our island. Also, a great rainy day activity. The museum is at 3rd St. and Cedar ... just two long blocks south of the inn. Guided walking tours can also be booked. Tel: 904-261-7378.

PUBLIC BEACHES 14 wonderful miles of them! Parking is located at frequent intervals all along AIA. There is also a great beach located within Ft. Clinch State Park. Beach towels are available - please ask any staff member. We can also pack a picnic lunch for you to take along, featuring our wonderful fried chicken. Please book picnics in advance.

FORT CLINCH STATE PARK is just at the end of Atlantic Avenue, close to the beach. Ft. Clinch is a pre-civil war fort in excellent condition and great for visitors of all ages, the last weekend of every month features a "re-encampment" complete with soldiers and civilians. There are also candlelight tours every Friday and Saturday night during the summer (Reservations are necessary). The state park is noted for its 1500 ft. fishing pier jutting out into the ocean, great for the casual fisherman and crabber. Within the park are miles of hiking trails, beach facilities and lovely shaded roads for biking.

BOATING opportunities are varied. Sailing Charters can be booked through Sail Amelia, 5 N. 6th St. Tel: 904-261-9125. Deep-sea fishing is available at the City Marina, through the Charter Boat Assn. Tel: 904-261-2870. Fly Fishing is also excellent

GOLF Fernandina Beach Municipal Course has 27 holes and is a very enjoyable course. The south and west courses are the best in our opinion. We can also arrange a game at the Golf Club of Amelia Island, located in the Ritz complex or perhaps Oyster Bay in St. Marys, Georgia. (30 miles up the road). We would be happy to arrange tee times for you.

TENNIS There are four public tennis courts that are approximately 1 mile away on Atlantic Ave. They are lighted for evening play. See us for a key

AMELIA COMMUNITY THEATRE AND FERNANDINA BEACH LITTLE THEATRE both perform at intervals throughout the year featuring casts of locals! Jeanine is our resident theatre buff and can fill you in!

CARRIAGE RIDES are available to give you a tour of the historic district. You may book these through the Florida House Inn. Inquire about our dinner/carriage ride combo.

SCENIC DRIVES down the "Buccaneer Trail", one of the most beautiful roads in the south. A two-lane road (AIA south) connects one barrier island to the next, from Amelia Isl. to Ft. George Island and the St. John's river ferry.

KINGSLEY PLANTATION is located on Ft. George Island. Built in 1792 it is the oldest plantation in Florida. Exhibits at the main house are available any day 9 to 5. Ranger programs Monday through Friday 1:30 PM, Saturday and Sunday 11 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3 PM. It was recently designated a National Park.

LITTLE TALBOT ISLAND STATE PARK this beautiful park has over 5 miles of beach and a coastal hammock covered with live oak, holly and magnolia trees and sea oat covered dunes. Complete with nature trails, picnic areas, campsites and fishing, it is just 10 miles south of here on AIA.

CUMBERLAND ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE is just a few miles north of Fernandina Beach. Reachable only by ferry from St. Marys, Georgia the "Cumberland Queen" makes the trip daily. ANTIQUE SHOPS are found downtown in the historic district as well as some outlying locations. We will be glad to point you in the right direction! SPECIALTY STORES abound on Centre St. You will enjoy browsing through them.

KAYAK AMELIA offers half and full day excursions that can put you face to face with dolphins, manatees, otters and a whole host of other local inhabitants. Picture yourself paddling a kayak through warm sparkling waters, a dolphin surfaces off your bow as pelicans soar overhead. The Keys? Bahamas? Cozumel? No, it's just minutes away in the waters around Amelia Island!
